Sentencing Review Northern Ireland- A Public Consultation DoJ October 2019
Results updated 7 May 2021
Thank you for your ongoing interest in the Department’s review of sentencing policy.
As you know, our public consultation on the review concluded in February 2020, following an extended consultation period and a number of public engagement events. The Review included comprehensive research, considered policy and practice in other jurisdictions and engaged with experts as well as those affected by sentencing policy.
The Department was pleased with the level of interest in the review, with more than 200 responses received.
The report on the responses received to this consultation will be published by 30 September 2020 and will be available to view via:-

I hope you will find this informative,
Kind regards
The Review Team
Overview
This consultation seeks your views on general aspects of Sentencing Policy and on a number of areas of concern that have been raised with previous Ministers or the Department of Justice.
The consultation can be responded to in full or in part, guided by where your interest lies. You may find it helpful to answer questions as they arise at the end of each relevant section within the chapter.
Given the breadth of subjects that the consultation paper covers, it is inevitably lengthy. However, each subject is covered by an individual PDF document so that the reader can be selective and only comment on those of interest. Each chapter aims to explain current sentencing policy and practice for that subject area and sets out potential options for change.
Where a chapter refers to an appendix or annex, they can be found on the next page.
We would like to hear your views on sentencing for the full range of subjects included in the Review. There will be a series of regional Public engagement events during November and December 2019. The details of dates, locations and how to register can be found at the bottom of the screen. You can register via Eventbrite, registration is open from 30 October 2019.
We hope you will be able to attend and share your views or questions on one or more of the areas under review. You can also communicate with the team at SentencingReviewConsultation@justice-ni.x.gsi.gov.uk
