Strengthening Family Relationships Strategy - Visitors Survey

Overview

We want to hear from you

The Northern Ireland Prison Service looks after people who are in prison. We know that when someone is in prison, it can affect the whole family, including children and young people.

The Prison Service already has a plan to help people in prison stay connected with their families and loved ones. This includes recognising the needs of children and families and supporting contact where it is safe and appropriate to do so.

We are now developing a new family strategy to help strengthen family relationships for people in prison and those who are important to them.

As part of this work, we want to hear from a wide range of people about their experiences and views. We would like to understand what is working well, what could be improved, and what should be considered in the future.

Your feedback will help us develop a family-centred strategy that supports positive relationships, family wellbeing, rehabilitation, and successful reintegration into the community.

Why your views matter

Your views are important

We would like to hear your views and the views of children and young people.

Your ideas and experiences can help us understand what is important to you and how the Prison Service can better support children, young people, and families when someone they care about is in prison.

This activity will open on 19 Oct 2026. Please come back on or after this date to give us your views.
