Biomethane Business Case - Request for Information

Overview

The Department for the Economy (DfE) is developing a business case to seek funding from Treasury for a potential support scheme to subsidise the use of biomethane in industry. The proposed scheme would aim to operate from 2028 to 2035 and support the increased use of biomethane as a decarbonisation option.

DfE is seeking information to help build the evidence base for the business case around the potential supply and demand for biomethane in Northern Ireland. The business case is still under development and will be subject to the necessary approvals. The questions for biomethane producers are at the start of the RfI and the questions for potential users of biomethane are towards the end. Please navigate through the RfI and answer the questions relevant to your business. Providing information as part of this exercise does not guarantee future funding or participation in any future support scheme.

Why your views matter

Your response will help the Department for the Economy build a robust evidence base on the potential supply of and demand for biomethane. In this regard we are interested in hearing from biomethane producers and also businesses that are interested in using biomethane.

The information you provide will help inform the development of the business case for a potential future support scheme. All data will be held confidentially, and any figures used in the business case will be anonymised so that individual businesses are not identified.
