Introduction
What is the Redress Scheme?
The Standardised Payment scheme recognises the impact that Magdalene Laundries and Mother and Baby Institutions had on people.
You may be eligible for a payment if, during the period covered by the law, you were:
- in a relevant institution;
- born to a mother who was in a relevant institution; or
- the spouse/partner or child of a deceased eligible person who died after 28 April 1953.
What is the Redress Service?
The Redress Service is an independent organisation that will:
- Receive applications.
- Check official records.
- Confirm eligibility.
- Make decisions.
- Make payments to successful applicants.
What are the Regulations?
The Regulations will set out how the scheme works.
They are designed to:
- Make the process clear and easy to understand.
- Ensure the scheme is fair for everyone.
- Help the Redress Service deal with issues such as missing or incomplete records.
- Make sure the same rules are applied to all applicants.
