Consultation on the Inquiry Rules for the Truth Recovery Public Inquiry - Easy Read

Overview

On 30 June 2026, the Assembly voted to approve a new law.

The new law will:

• Create a Public inquiry.
• Create a Redress Scheme to provide support and payments to eligible people.

Before the law can start, it must go through a final step called Royal Assent. This is expected to happen in Autumn 2026.

The Public Inquiry cannot open until the law is in place.

More detailed rules must also be written before the Public Inquiry can begin.
