User Engagement on New Methodology for Measuring Electricity Consumption and Renewable Generation in Northern Ireland

Closes 31 Oct 2025

Opened 4 Sep 2025

Overview

Summary

DfE Statistics Information, Analysis and Research Branch is seeking users’ views on work undertaken to develop an improved statistical measure of Electricity Consumption and Renewable Generation (ECRG) in Northern Ireland and the development of an improved data framework in support.

Background

Regular Official Statistics on ECRG have been published by NISRA statisticians within the Department for the Economy (DfE) since 2014. Publication of these figures has been important in showing the progress made toward previous Government targets in relation to renewable electricity generation.

While the ECRG reports so far have been a useful way to track progress, changes since reporting began in 2014 meant it was necessary to review the measure, the method used, and the data behind it, in order to improve and develop it further. This was also a commitment within DfE’s energy strategy ‘Path to Net Zero Energy’.

Why your views matter

User engagement helps us understand how any changes might affect and benefit users. We therefore invite feedback from all stakeholders and users of the ECRG report.

The feedback gathered through this user engagement will help shape the final developments and improvements to the ECRG report.

The full User Engagement document can be found here and should be read before completing the questionnaire.
