Closes 8 Nov 2024

Opened 23 Sep 2024

Overview

The Public Sector Apprentice of the Year Award 2025 is awarded on the basis of a Public Sector Apprentice’s exceptional contribution to their workplace and their dedication to excel in their professional development and learning.

The judges will consider their performance; achievements; and progress.

Who can enter?

Public Sector Apprentices must be working towards a full Apprenticeship qualification at Level 2 or higher.

Who can submit an application?

Nominations must be made by the Training Provider on behalf of the Employer and the Apprentice. There are questions in the form that require input from the Employer and the Apprentice, which the Training Provider is responsible for ensuring are complete.

Public Sector Apprenticeships are not funded under the Department for the Economy’s ApprenticeshipsNI or Higher Level Apprenticeship programmes, however, to be eligible for this Award, apprentices must be employed in the Public Sector, working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification and with training delivered by a Training Provider already contracted by the Department to deliver its ApprenticeshipsNI or Higher Level Apprenticeships programmes.

No Training Provider may submit more than three nominations.

Employers who have Apprentices they would like to see nominated should engage with their Training Providers to determine which of their Public Sector Apprentices they should shortlist for the 2025 competition.

DfE will carry out an initial eligibility check, followed by a sifting process, after which only the top three applicants in each category will be shortlisted to become finalists in the competition.

What are the judges looking for?

Nominations will be scored against the following three criteria: Integrate Apprentice(s) into the workplace; develop Apprentices’ professional and technical skills; and, a personal positive contribution to the business.
