Public Consultation: A definition of Social Enterprise in Northern Ireland

Overview

This consultation seeks views from organisations with an interest in social economy enterprises in Northern Ireland.  The definition is in response to challenges raised across government departments in differentiating social enterprises from wider organisations in the social economy sector for targeted funding initiatives. The Social Enterprise Policy Group established in 2024 which includes representatives from central and local government, has worked collaboratively to draft a Northern Ireland-specific definition for further consultation. Feedback from this consultation will help to finalise the definitions framework, which is intended to support more consistent, transparent and effective funding of the sector.
