Electrical Switchgear Academy with Vertiv - Application
Overview
The Electrical Switchgear Academy with Vertiv is supported by the Department for the Economy (DfE) and delivered in partnership with North West Regional College (NWRC).
Assured Skills Academies are a pathway to industry-leading training before entering the workforce or changing career. The Academy is a seven-week training course providing practical knowledge and real-world experience required to work in the sector. Training will include five weeks intensive training at NWRC and two weeks work based training at the Vertiv site in Derry-Londonderry.
Successful participants in the Academy work towards a Level 2 entry level qualification in Electrical Installation (EAL) for work in the electrical switchgear sector. Participants are guaranteed a job interview for a permanent role as a Junior Panel Wirer with Vertiv. Offers of employment will be solely at the discretion of the company following the interview.
Participants will receive a weekly training allowance of £175 for the duration of the Academy, as well as help with travel and childcare expenses (if eligible).
Who can Apply?
No previous experience is needed but you must:
- be at least 18 years old by 24 February 2025;
- have a right to work and to undertake Assured Skills Training in the UK at the point of application and not be disqualified from doing either by reason of their immigration status.

Information Session, Interview and Training dates
Monday 10 February 2025 – Information Session will be held at Vertiv, 1 Fruit of the Loom Drive, Campsie Industrial Estate, Derry/Londonderry, BT47 3XY
Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 February 2025 – Academy interviews
Monday 25 February to Friday 11 April 2025 – Academy training
Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the training period. Any pre-scheduled commitments should be listed at question 21 on the application form.
Training takes place weekdays, 9am to 5pm.

In November 2023 Vertiv announced the creation of approximately 200 jobs for the Derry-Londonderry area over the next four years, of which the majority will be operative roles.
