Overview

The Electrical Switchgear Academy with Vertiv is supported by the Department for the Economy (DfE) and delivered in partnership with North West Regional College (NWRC).

Assured Skills Academies are a pathway to industry-leading training before entering the workforce or changing career. The academy will provide practical knowledge and real-world experience required to work for Vertiv. The Academy is a seven-week training course providing practical knowledge and real-world experience required to work in the sector.  Training will include five weeks intensive training at NWRC and two weeks work based training at the Vertiv site in Derry-Londonderry, blending college learning with experience in a working environment.

Successful participants in the Academy work towards a Level 2 entry level qualification in Electrical Installation (EAL) for work in the electrical switchgear sector and are guaranteed a job interview for a permanent operative role involving shift work and potential overtime opportunities with Vertiv.  Offers of employment will be solely at the discretion of the company following the interview and any further employment checks the company may make.

Participants will receive a weekly training allowance of £175 for the duration of the Academy, as well as help with travel and childcare expenses (if eligible).

The seven-week Academy comprises of five weeks intensive training at NWRC where participants will study Level 2 Electrical Installation (EAL), and two weeks work based training at the Vertiv site in Derry-Londonderry to put into practice the college learning and experience the work environment.

Who can Apply?

No previous experience is needed but you must:

  • be at least 18 years old upon start of the course;
  • have a right to work and to undertake Assured Skills Training in the UK at the point of application and not be disqualified from doing either by reason of their immigration status.

Applicants should also have a passion for technology and a desire to work in a fast paced, innovative environment.

Tuesday 24, Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 September 2024 – Academy interviews

Monday 14 October to Friday 29 November 2024 – Academy training

Applicants must be available for the entire duration of the training period. Any pre-scheduled commitments should be listed at question 21 on the application form.

Training takes place weekdays, 9am to 5pm.
