Strategic Design Group Survey

1. The SDG’s Current Statement of Intent says: "Working together to promote successful, inclusive, well-designed places which inspire civic stewardship and have an enduring positive impact on people’s lives." Do you agree that this is still appropriate?
2. The current SDG Objective states: "The Strategic Design Group is an informally organised affiliation with an open membership (endorsed and supported jointly by the Ministers for Infrastructure and Communities), of people who are passionate about making places better and maximising the wider economic, cultural and community benefits of the built and natural environment. By working together, the group seeks to inspire, promote and embed strategic design thinking and the qualities of Living Places and rural design guidance as appropriate, in order to encourage civic stewardship and the creation of successful places which we can all enjoy." Do you agree that this is still appropriate?
3. Assuming that the SDG can fulfil it’s potential, do you agree that it should continue to meet?
4. Assuming that the SDG will continue, should we seek for it to maintain its Ministerial support?
5. It is important that the SDG should make a strategic difference in respect of placemaking, involving influential people from a range of relevant sectors who bring matters to the attention of the Group, provides a forum within which added value can be derived, and then disseminates knowledge widely, to influence better project outcomes. Is there any other group/organisation that fulfils that role?
6. In the past a number of groups have had a role in relation to placemaking. One of those was PLACE. Would it be helpful for the SDG to be involved in the review of the potential for an organisation such as PLACE to be re-established and if so to contribute to ensuring clarity of roles.
7. Assuming that the SDG will continue, would it be helpful for it’s role to be referenced in the update of the Architecture + Built Environment Policy?
8. The SDG could take an interest in a vast array of place-based issues. To optimise the impact of the SDG, prioritising efforts is likely to be helpful. What are the top three things that you think the SDG should prioritise? Below are some suggestions, but please add to these.
9. Any other comments:
