Science of Learning Online Teacher Professional Learning Programme

This programme will aim to empower teachers with research-informed strategies to enhance teaching and learning, ensuring evidence-based classroom practices that support improvements in student outcomes.

With the growing emphasis on cognitive science, neuroscience, and psychology in education, this programme will equip teachers with practical, research-backed techniques to support memory retention, attention, metacognition, and effective learning strategies. Content will focus on the developmental needs of primary learners and include specific strategies for literacy and numeracy. Ideally offering around 20-30 hours across the academic year, this will combine self-paced, accessible online modules with live webinars covering each of these topics as well as material specifically designed for school leaders and for teachers to use directly with pupils.

It is extremely important that participating schools fully utilise the programme and commit to prioritising it within their school planning for 2025-26. There will be a number of conditions of participation, which are set out below and include a commitment to including the programme within the school’s development plan, to utilise one School Development Day or Baker Day to focus on the learning from the programme and also to participate in an evaluation of the programme.
