Civil Service Skills Academy 2022 Application Form

Closed 27 Jul 2022

Opened 21 Jul 2022

Overview

The Civil Service Skills Academy is supported by the Northern Ireland Civil Service and is delivered in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College.

The Academy is a great way to acquire transferable and needed skills to upskill or reskill before returning to the workforce or changing career. It will provide you with foundational and lifelong skills.

There is an option for full-time or part-time training to best suit a range of circumstances. You will receive a weekly training allowance and you may also be eligible for travel and childcare allowances.

There are separate academies and curriculums depending on your prior experience, one is targeted at preparing you for a Staff Officer (SO) level role and the other for a Deputy Principal (DP) level role in the Civil Service.  If you complete the Academy you will be guaranteed an interview for either the Staff Officer or Deputy Principal role at the Department for the Economy (DfE) / The Executive Office (TEO), depending on which curriculum you have applied for and completed.

Please note: There are two stages to the selection process to attend the Academy and candidates will have to achieve a minimum score in the online assessment and of those passing the assessment, the top performing candidates from each cohort will progress to the sift stage. At the sift stage an assessment of the evidence provided in your application form against the relevant eligibility criteria will take place with those who meet the eligibility criteria being in a position to progress. Following this, should you be selected for the Academy, successful completion of the Academy is not a guarantee of a job, you must also be successful at the recruitment interview stage. More information including about the different roles and the two Departments can be found in the Candidate Information Booklet here.

Applications for the Civil Service Skills Academy are open with 80 training places available in total. There are 20 places available for each of the different academy cohorts.

The Civil Service is an Equal Opportunities Employer.

Applications from Protestants, young people (people under the age of 35), people with a disability and people from minority ethnic communities are particularly welcomed for this post.

All applications for employment are considered strictly on the basis of merit.
