Application for The Potato (Coronavirus) (Income Support) Scheme No. 2 (Northern Ireland) 2021

Closed 20 Aug 2021

Opened 28 Jul 2021

This application is for eligible potato growers to provide documentary evidence to demonstrate the scale of loss incurred.

The maximum amount of Agricultural Commodities (Coronavirus) (Income Support) paid to a farm business for 2020 and 2021 combined will be £210,124.

Funding of up to £2m is available to support eligible farmers who grew potatoes for the processing supply chain including specialist seed producers. Growers who have been unable to sell their potatoes as normal into the processing supply chain, and have sold surplus tubers for livestock feed, starch production or as raw material for AD plants can make a claim for loss to the Covid-19 Potato Scheme.

This funding was allocated by Minister Poots in response to the significant reduction in demand from the hospitality and food service sector for processing potatoes due to Covid-19 lockdown measures in late 2020 and early 2021.

The payment rate per tonne for potatoes presented into the scheme is calculated as the difference between the DAERA assessed local cost of production £147/t, and the stock feed market price or £20/t, whichever is higher. Applicants will have to provide, if applicable:

  1. evidence to confirm grower eligibility for the scheme, and
  2. evidence of invoice based sales of potatoes sold for stock feed, to an anaerobic digestion facility or to a starch production facility during the period 1 March 2021 – 31 July 2021 (both dates inclusive),
  3. a declaration of the tonnage of potatoes inspected in stores by DAERA officials.
